Project design commenced June 2014. Site location is Willowbridge School, Derrygonnelly Road, Enniskillen
Project included demolition of the existing Edwards Campus, new build extension incorporating offices, classrooms, resource areas, conselling & quiet rooms, ancillary accommodation, refurbishment of Lendrum Campus to provide Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Out Reach Teachers and Medical Room, Fitness Suite and Library/Drama room. Site works included new car parking, drop-off area for cars and buses and temporary roads to facilitate the phasing of the works. The school remained live throughout.
We provided full structural and civil engineering services from RIBA Stage C to RIBA Stage L.
The Building Contract is NEC Option 3 Long Form Building Contract
1.7ha site area therefore we were required to undertake a drainage assessment in support of the planning application.

Drainage design incorporated SUDS to limit the storm discharge into the adjacent Rivers Agency stream to no greater than the current site. This was required due to the increase in hard surfacing with the increase in car parking and roof area.

Part of the car parking is on the footprint of the former buildings, so following the final phase (demolition) existing foundations and redundant drainage are to be removed.

Single storey buildings designed using load bearing masonry with a concrete ring beam around the head of the walls. Roof covering required cold formed steel purlins therefore mono pitched steel rafters were used to keep the construction details simple and cost effective. Large open plan rooms were provided using 215thk internal masonry walls.
Ground conditions vary across the site requiring a combination of mini piles and traditional strip foundations. Floor slab was suspended precast concrete where piled foundations were required and ground bearing slab elsewhere. This created the most cost effective solution.
Steel frame used locally around the entrance to create double height spaces.
Gabion walls are used for external retaining walls.
