David Kingsmill

Senior Structural Engineer

David is a Chartered Engineer with 10 years’ experience in both the private and public sectors. After graduating from the University of Dundee in 2008 with a BEng in Civil Engineering, he took up employment with Fairhurst Consulting Engineers (Dundee) as a Graduate Structural Engineer where he worked on various projects ranging across the leisure, education, industrial and domestic sectors in Scotland and Northern England.

After 3 years with Fairhurst, he returned to the University of Dundee to obtain an MSc degree in Civil Engineering, studying modules such as Innovative Structures, and left with a Distinction and the 2012 University of Dundee John Wylie Award having graduated top of his year.

Following University, David joined the Bridges and Structures Team at Dundee City Council where he held the positions of Assistant Engineer, Engineer and Senior Engineer during his 7-year period of employment, becoming chartered in 2014. His projects for the Council included structural design of education and leisure facilities, bridge inspection and maintenance, contract management and procurement exercises. During this time, He also assisted the local universities in their delivery of engineering modules. He completed his leadership and management qualification through the ILM in 2018.

David’s main engineering interests include structural design, 3D modelling, BIM and training and developing members of the team. In July 2019 he returned to Northern Ireland and joined Design ID.

Leisure interests include 5-a-side football (knees permitting), golf, bouldering and a wide range of alternative music.
