Design ID provided Civil and Structural Engineering services on this new community facility for SME’s in Brighton. The design involved placing containers on the site of demolished pub (The Cobbler’s Thumb) but with a specific requirement for the construction to be easily removable.
We designed bespoke foundation arrangements over deep fill in the old basement. Some containers were placed on their ends, to create 2-storey studios, stabilised by filling the bottom end of the container with sand ballast.
