Former Maysfield Leisure Centre

The successful conversion of the former Maysfield Leisure Centre into the European headquarters of a global IT company, accommodating 1,500 employees, is one such example. By meticulously assessing the condition and structural capacity of the existing building, we justified that the original foundations could support three additional storeys of office accommodation.

We looked closely at the structural materials–brick, steel, and concrete–how they were performing and likely to perform going forward, designing bespoke repair and strengthening details where required. Lateral stability and robustness were addressed by combining discrete bracing with existing structural elements – mobilising their potential.

By repurposing the Maysfield Leisure Centre, we preserved its historical, cultural, and (perhaps most importantly) material value, reducing the need for new construction materials and minimising waste. Through radical change of use–leisure centre to commercial office–building demolition was avoided.

This project exemplifies our commitment to innovative, sustainable, and responsible building practices, making us a leader in the field of adaptive reuse.
