Hull Royal Infirmary - Theatre Link Bridge
Bridges | Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) | HealthcareHigh-quality offsite manufacture and rapid site installation highlights the key benefits of MMC, particularly where life-critical systems and services are to be unaffected during site works.
With a tight programme it was essential the modules were delivered in time for the NHS to fit within the window of the blue light emergency ambulance route closure.
Design ID provided the structural design for a new link bridge to provide a new connection between the ICU and main hospital at Hull Royal Infirmary. Modular contractor Reds10 fit-out the modules on site, with all steelwork and connections designed and detailed by Design ID.
The modules were transported to site and craned into place, bearing onto a pre-designed steel gantry and piled foundation scheme. Design ID calculated predicted deflections at the tip of the gantry cantilever to inform the connection details between the independent modules and gantry structure, whilst considering the wind loading on the façade during the permanent condition.
