Design ID were appointed as Civil and Structural Engineers for the construction of a new Primary School in North Wokingham. The project included a new school building, a pavilion, car parking, public spaces, playgrounds, sports pitches, and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) to minimise environmental impact. The school aims to provide state-of-the-art learning facilities while prioritising eco-friendly design for the local community.
Key services provided by Design ID included building foundation design, an optimised site earthworks strategy to reduce material waste, proposed site levels that supported efficient water management, sustainable car park build-ups, and the design of foul and surface water drainage systems.
A PV array was installed on the roof to provide electricity and 4 electric vehicle chargers, also available for public use were also installed. Engagement with Statutory Authorities ensured compliance and facilitated the implementation of sustainable practices throughout the project.
A fundamental component of the external public realm design was the incorporation of SuDS for surface water design management which utilised permeable paving, filter drains. was as efficient as possible to assist with project cost and programme. Additionally, the models ensured limited on-site wastage and assisted the Contractor with detailed understanding of requirements at an early design stage.
Design ID communicated with the Contractor throughout the design process to eliminate risks wherever possible in advance of Construction and residual risks were highlighted where required.
