The Queen Elizabeth Hospital – Domestic, Sewing and FM Office
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) | HealthcareModular healthcare buildings are fundamental to transforming ageing hospital infrastructure into modern, spacious facilities.
The dedicated Design ID modular structural team collaborated closely with McAvoy to develop a bespoke modular frame suitable for rapid deployment to replace legacy facilities. The two-storey provision comprises sewing rooms, open-plan offices, storage space, interview rooms and an IT hub to modernise the estate for The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation.
Design ID developed an off-the-shelf steel frame which can physically be delivered to tightly constrained sites whilst allowing for flexibility in the floor layout to ensure The Trust’s specific brief and requirements can be met. The DID engineers assisted the factory and site personnel in developing simple permanent and temporary connection details for a seamless installation prior to and during the construction stage. The buildability of the bays and associated connection details meant that install to completion was reduced to a six-week period and disruption to the ongoing hospital activities was reduced. Standardisation of the steel components limited material wastage and allows for future flexibility in the room layout should the Trust’s requirements change.
The completion of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital office block highlights Design ID’s ability to deliver healthcare buildings that meet both functional and safety standards within strict timelines.
