A new-build Business School at the University of Brighton, Design ID's involvement commenced pre-tender for the successful contractor Gilbert Ash by initially undertaking a risks and opportunity review role to provide them with greater commercial certainty, risk management advice on the engineering, and added value opportunities to support their successful bid. Unlocking value in the scheme including removal of perimeter upstand/downstands, maximising the opportunity for pre-fabricated reinforcement and a resulting reduction in overall reinforcement tonnage, Design ID were appointed by Gilbert Ash to undertake the structural and civil engineering from tender to construction and project completion.

The new Business School at the UOB is a 6-storey concrete frame building and the centrepiece of the transformation of the Moulsecoomb campus. The academic building provides state-of-the-art modern and flexible teaching and social space. The structure boasts a double height open atrium, cantilever slabs around central building voids, exposed visual concrete and feature stairs. The external infrastructure utilises SuDS – Sustainable Drainage Systems. Design ID also engaged with the specialist façade supplier to assist engineering the striking ceramic envelope to unlock the architects aspiration for this key project for the University.
