Early engagement is paramount for the successful delivery of any project utilising Modern Methods of Construction. Design ID were appointed by Noviniti and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) to provide expert advice on the most suitable MMC strategy to be progressed for a 3-storey elective hub and main entrance to Warwick Hospital. Exploiting Design ID’s vast knowledge of offsite and modular construction techniques, Design ID were brought in as the MMC Advisor and modular structural designer to progress the scheme according to the DfMA Overlay to the RIBA Plan of Work.
From initial concept scheming at RIBA Stage 2 through to Stage 4, Design ID provided and structural design expertise to the design team to develop a concept and outline specification suitable for modular contractors to tailor their own modular systems to. Design ID influenced the architectural layout to standardise the modular layout across the floor grid.
Due for completion in late 2024, the state-of-the-art facility is part of a transformation of the Warwick Hospital estate. The dedicated facility will enable the NHS to increase the number of surgical procedures and reduce associated wait times. The ground floor will include an M&S, Costa Coffee and pharmacy to provide accessible services and improve the flow around the hospital, with the upper floor space reserved for new wards including the provision of 40 beds At roof, plant and PV panels are proposed to contribute to meeting the zero-carbon target.
