Laura Killeen

Laura studied Structural Engineering with Architecture at Queen’s University, Belfast. Graduating in 2007 with a Masters degree. Laura has fifteen years post graduate experience in structural engineering design- the majority of the first ten years of her career was spent at WDR & RT Taggart in Belfast and latterly joined Design ID in early 2017. Laura has been Project Engineer on a wide range of projects and is particularly interested in the Building Structures sector. Laura gained Chartership with the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2014.

Laura has a keen interest in BIM, and was a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Supervisor, working with Queen's University on a Building Information Modelling (BIM) in relation to Structural Engineering project. The partnership worked to achieve effective interoperability of structural engineering BIM software with structural analysis software and with other Integrated Design Team software, to produce a seamless and efficient interaction process. The project received the highest grade, the Certificate of Excellence. Laura has been putting the knowledge gained from this partnership into practice, creating BIM models for all her projects and collaborating with other disciplines involved.

Laura is an active member of the Northern Ireland Regional Group of the Institution of Structural Engineers, now in her 10th year on the committee- she is Junior Vice-Chair.

Fun fact: Laura has never tried a burger.
