A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Simon brings an imaginative yet pragmatic approach to lead the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering team in Design ID since 2015, utilising problem solving experience across several construction sector disciplines. He has been operating as a Project Manager, Lead Engineer and Technical Specialist within the Civil Infrastructure Engineering Sector, with particular experience over 17 years in Bridges, Roads, Railways, Public Realm, Geotechnics, Temporary Works and Marine Engineering. He is particularly interested in innovative designs and takes a lot of pleasure in leading Design & Build projects creating efficient and pragmatic solutions, with their lean design ethos helping to reduce our environmental impact, whilst enhancing our public realm for all our communities.

Simon started his engineering career with GRAHAM Construction in 2005 gaining valuable site experience on Wastewater and Road Civil Engineering projects before joining the world of Engineering Design Consultancy in 2008, with Doran Consulting, and later AECOM. Achieving Chartered Engineer status in 2012, with both the ICE & IStructE, Simon's advanced technical capability has complimented his pro-active, problem solving communication skills. This has allowed him to forge relationships with Architects, Contractors, Clients and collaborate with specialists across the engineering projects he has been involved with.

Since 2014, Simon has also been a guest lecturer for Civil Engineering at Queens University Belfast, helping to promote good design practice in the next generation of Engineers. He has also been actively involved in the regional Concrete Society (MCS), ICE & IStructE Committees, as well as serving on the IStructE Global Council of Engineers from 2014 to 2017.

Fun fact - In 2010 Simon was part of a 3-man team driving an ambulance 6000 miles from Belfast to Mongolia raising over £15k for NI Charity Cancer Fund for Children.
