Zuzanna Baran

Zuzanna joined Design ID in 2024 after graduating from Queen’s University Belfast with a Masters in Structural Engineering with Architecture. During her time at university she was awarded the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Prize for the highest marks in a dissertation relevant to sustainable waste management for her project, “Optimisation of cement-free concrete made with eco-friendly activator”. She was an ICE Student Ambassador in her second year in addition to being part of the QUB Engineering Society in her fourth and fifth year, acting as a committee member and vice chair respectively.
Zuzanna was the recipient of the Institution of Civil Engineers QUEST Scholarship which granted her the opportunity to complete three industry placements with Galliford Try, including work on the M56 Smart Motorway Scheme and Crawley STW. Through the scholarship she became a STEM ambassador and has spent a significant amount of time advocating for a career in engineering at events aimed for young women.
Having previously completed a placement with Design ID, Zuzanna hopes to continue developing her skills as an engineer, with a special focus on conservation engineer and sustainability within the industry.
Fun fact: Zuzanna is bilingual and currently learning a third language!
